A Brief Biography on
Bill Bowers
Bill Bowers has been a
full time turner, teacher, demonstrator and author since he retired
from the practice of Gastroenterology in 2000. He has kept busy not
only teaching novice turners but also establishing a local chapter
of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) in Alaska—Alaska
Woodturners Association (AWA).
Bill has given many
demos on hand thread chasing, spiral, off-centered, green bowl,
hollow form, vessel, artistic, and box turnings at many events. He
is featured in several galleries and enjoys sponsoring an annual
November turning art show where more than 1000 of his pieces are on
display and for sale.
Bill has authored many
periodical articles on various turning subjects and completed
six instructional texts on turning published by Schiffer Publishing
Ltd. The texts are: "The Basics of Turning
Spirals", "10 Easy Projects for the Smaller
Lathe", "7 More Projects for the Smaller Lathe",
"Turning Boxes with Friction Fitted Lids", "Turning Boxes with
Threaded Lids"; and,
"Wood Turning: From Tree to Table". He delights in
creating urns, keepsakes and one of a kind reliquaries.
